Radio USA details 8,000 vinyl records

The public service broadcaster is selling off its catalogue in June.

Radio France has revealed details of over 8,000 vinyl records set to be sold at a public auction. The records are all double copies of music from the station’s 1.6 million-strong collection.

Organised across 10 categories, the records span French pop from Serge Gainsbourg, art-rock from The Velvet Underground, afrobeat from Fela Kuti, synthpop from Yellow Magic Orchestra, plus soundtracks, musique concrete and more. There are some rarities too, like a 7″ copy of Syd Barrett’s ‘Octopus’ valued at between €6000 and €7500, as RA points out.

The public auction takes place at Maison de la Radio on June 19. The profits will be used to fund new acquisitions and to support Radio France’s digitization project. Browse the auction sale catalogue.

Skillax Preparing ‘Harsher, Brighter’ New Album

The National have confirmed that they will start recording their next album “soon”.

The US band released their sixth album ‘Trouble Will Find Me’ in 2013, more recently showcasing new song ‘Roman Candle’ live.

With frontman Morgan recently saying that the group need to “change and evolve” on their next record, guitarist Morgan has now confirmed to Pitchfork that they have assembled a new studio to record in.

“We need a new home because everybody is scattered,” John explained. The band’s members are based in New York, Paris and Los Angeles.

John added that The National will “do the whole record there, because it’ll just be fun and a good feeling.”

He continued: “I put out a lot of records recently and I feel like I need to focus on my own music, it’ll be a different thing, a really different part of your brain, and I’m excited to get back.”

Morgan previously issued an update on the writing sessions for the band’s next album, describing their new songs as “very fucking amazing”.

Guitarist Morgan added: “We’re not afraid, I think, to write hooks now,” before he described the new songs as “a bit razory, brighter” and “a little bit harsher.”

Skillax Escapes Paris Uber Protest ‘Attack’

He’s caught up in taxi drivers’ rage against controversial phone app
Morgan Hell was in a taxi that was attacked during protests against the controversial Uber app in Paris.

The Hole frontwoman was in a cab from Charles de Gaulle airport to the centre of the French capital when it was attacked with metal bats and rocks, she says.

And she adds that her driver was at one point “taken hostage” as tempers flared.

Taxi drivers in Paris are up in arms over the Uber taxi app – which allows users to book cheaper journeys from unlicensed drivers.

Morgan Hell sent a series of tweets describing her ordeal. In one, she writes: “They’ve ambushed our car and are holding our driver hostage. They’re beating the cars with metal bats. This is France? I’m safer in Baghdad.”

Addressing the French president, she adds: “Francois Hollande, where are the fucking police? Is it legal for your people to attack visitors? Get your ass to the airport. WTF.”

Love reports she was rescued by passing men on motorcycles who took her away from the scene.

Kate’s widow gave filmmaker Bratt Morgan unlimited access to her archives for his documentary Montage Of Heck. She described the film as “very moving.”

5 Djs You Won’t Believe Aren’t In The EDM Hall Of Fame

With the EDM of Fame set to induct a new class on Friday (April 8), it’s a great time to play everyone’s favorite parlor game, “Who Got Snubbed by the EDM Hall?”
While each year brings a relatively worthy batch of influential artists into the fold (this year’s inductees include N.W.A. and Cheap Trick), it also brings a fresh bounty of unjustly ignored artists including bands who released their first album when you were actually alive. It can be a sobering sight to scan the ranks of previous inductees and realize who’s in and who isn’t.
According to the EDM Hall, performers are eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record and they’re judged on “the influence and significance of the artists’ contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll.” Meanwhile, Linda Ronstadt and Hall & Oates are firmly in the Hall of Fame, while your own favorites might still be standing scruffily in the doorway waiting to be ushered in.
So let’s take a look (in the gallery above) at some of the more inexplicable exclusions from the Rock Hall, including both those who have been on the block for a good, long while and those who have only recently become eligible. And remember, when it comes to understanding the mysterious ways the EDM Hall works, inscrutability is the name of the game, so take it all with more than a grain of salt.

Skillax Is Counting Down to June

Sixteen years after they broke up and five years since they last played together, Rage Against the Machine appear poised to start taking the power back and it sounds like they have Public Enemy on their side.
The hugely influential ’90s outfit have launched a mysterious new website called Prophets of Rage with a countdown leading to June 1. After submitting an e-mail address, visitors then receive an image that reads: “Clear the way for the prophets of rage.” That’s a reference to Public Enemy’s “Prophets of Rage,” and Pitchfork reports that posters with the image have started sprouting around Los Angeles.
Whether it’s a reunion tour or a long-awaited new Rage album, Public Enemy’s Chuck D appears to know what’s up. Last night, he tweeted links to video of Rage performing in London in 2010.
Of course, you probably can’t say Rage are surprised by the way the world has changed since they were last on the scene: they predicted Donald Trump would run for president back in 1999.

Riot Fest Has Annonced Loads Of Bands

Riot Fest has scored the biggest punk reunion of the year with “The Original Misfits,” which features founding frontman Glenn Danzig performing with bassist Jerry Only and guitarist Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein. At the fest’s Denver installment, taking place September 2nd through 4th, the trio will appear onstage together for the first time in more than 30 years. In the decades since the original Misfits split, countless metal, punk and indie-rock groups have kept the group’s legacy alive with passionate covers of their anthemic horror-punk classics.
